I am an interventional cardiologist and researcher who has been at Duke for nearly 20 years. I enjoy being at Duke because of the “family” I get to work with every day. When we are able to make a patient feel better through teamwork; it’s a great feeling. I chose cardiology as my specialty because of the chance to make a difference in someone’s life in real time. When someone is having a heart attack, they are relying on you to come to their aid quickly. At that moment, I get to apply science to save a life, while learning more about what we can do to help improve people’s lives in the future. In that way, medicine also gives me the chance to learn from my patients and apply what I find to benefit the greater good. I find that whole process is exciting. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my school-aged children. Dr. Patel is highly rated in 24 conditions, according to our data. His top areas of expertise are Peripheral Artery Disease, Atherosclerosis, Coronary Heart Disease, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), and Angioplasty.

I diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, supraventricular tachycardias (SVT), atrial flutter, and ventricular arrhythmias. I perform catheter ablation procedures, including minimally invasive catheter surgery, for these conditions. I also implant and manage devices, such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacemakers or defibrillators. I also evaluate patients for possible genetic causes for sudden cardiac arrest or arrhythmias. Collaborating with a genetic counselor specializing in cardiac disorders, I perform genetic testing for these conditions. In addition, I evaluate athletes with cardiac conditions, focusing on arrhythmias and abnormal electrocardiograms. Dr. Daubert is highly rated in 18 conditions, according to our data. My role in cardiology at Duke has been in the prevention and management of advanced cardiovascular disease symptoms in my patients. In the area of prevention, I specialized in cholesterol treatment and specifically in the management of statin medications especially for those individuals who feel they are intolerant. My practice also has a focus on patients with difficult-to-control hypertension, hypertension medication intolerance, difficult-to-manage congestive heart failure, and problems with heart failure medications. My newest role in the clinic is as the director of Outpatient Services for our practice. Our practice-based goals are to make sure everyone who sees a Duke cardiologist leaves on the best therapy for their disease based on current evidence and the individual's ability to tolerate and benefit from that treatment. Dr. Blazing is highly rated in 27 conditions, according to our data. His top areas of expertise are Heart Failure, Pulmonary Edema, Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF), Cardiac Ablation, and Pacemaker Implantation.

One of the special things about electrophysiology here is that we have we have a really large department. We have 13 electrophysiologists, which is more than some cities have. A unique aspect of Duke is that there is a lot of collegiality among our providers. We certainly approach patients as a team. That’s a huge benefit for patients coming to Duke. With such a large and unique department, we’re certainly able to deal with many complex patients. Some of my favorite patients are those I have followed for years. It’s an ongoing relationship that I have and seeing them come back and telling me about all the wonderful things they are doing is really satisfying. Dr. Jackson is highly rated in 18 conditions, according to our data. I fell in love with cardiology early in my medical training when I saw a patient in the emergency department who came in with a heart attack. The cardiology team swooped down and took him away to a procedure room, and in less than 45 minutes the heart attack had been stopped, and the patient was asking if he could go home. I'm so happy to be on that team now. I have extensive experience in minimally invasive procedures to treat people with a myriad of cardiac conditions. Most commonly, you can find me in the cardiac catheterization laboratory opening blockages in the arteries that feed the heart to treat angina or stop heart attacks. In the hospital, I also see patients with other acute cardiac conditions. In the office, I see patients with the entire range of heart problems. I'm excited to be joining Duke because I'll also be able to get back to doing research aimed at improving our understanding and management of patients with heart disease at the Duke Clinical Research Institute. In addition, I love to teach and learn, and there is no better place than Duke to stoke the intellectual curiosity that brought me to medicine in the first place. Dr. Pride is highly rated in 18 conditions, according to our data. His top areas of expertise are Mitral Valve Regurgitation, Necrosis, Aortic Valve Stenosis, Aortic Valve Replacement, and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).

I came to Duke as a visiting medical student many years ago and fell in love with this institution and its people. I love to be part of a group that contributes knowledge and discoveries every day. As an electrophysiologist, I treat people with heart rhythm disorders, including atrial arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias. I mostly focus on the prevention of sudden cardiac death and on patients with devices such as pacemakers and implantable defibrillators. We do everything we can to build a very good and strong relationship with patients; we provide them with the information they need and empower them to make the decisions that are best for them. We’re also at the cutting edge of new discoveries. The research we do is amazing – the findings that help patients and advance the field make working at Duke thrilling. It’s very exciting to be part of that. For these reasons, patients benefit greatly from coming to Duke. Dr. Al is highly rated in 12 conditions, according to our data. Her top areas of expertise are Familial Progressive Cardiac Conduction Defect, Atrial Fibrillation, Bidirectional Tachycardia, Pacemaker Implantation, and Cardiac Ablation.

    What is a cardiologist?

A cardiologist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the heart and blood vessels (e.g., arteries, capillaries, veins, etc). A cardiologist manages conditions such as heart attacks, heart failure, and high blood pressure with medications, lifestyle changes, and various procedures.

What is the difference between a cardiologist and a cardiac surgeon?

There are many types of doctors who help keep people’s hearts healthy. A cardiac surgeon, for example, performs surgeries on the heart, including heart bypass surgeries, valve repairs or replacements, and heart transplants. A cardiologist focuses on treating heart problems through non-surgical methods, such as medications, and surgical procedures, such as angioplasty

    What does a cardiologist treat?

A cardiologist treats many heart-related conditions, including:

    • Pericarditis (inflammation of the lining around the heart)

When should I see a cardiologist?

You should consider getting a referral to a cardiologist if you experience the following:

    • Your primary care doctor recommends a heart evaluation
    • Chest pain or discomfort
    • Shortness of breath
    • Palpitations (irregular or rapid heartbeats)
    • A family history of heart disease

What tests are available for heart disease?

Several tests can help diagnose heart disease, including:

    • Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG): Measures the electrical activity of the heart
    • Echocardiogram: Uses ultrasound to create images of the heart
    • Stress test: Assesses how the heart works during physical exertion
    • Cardiac catheterization: Involves threading a catheter to the heart to check for blockages
    • Blood tests: Measure levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, and other markers
    • Holter monitor: Records continuous ECG over 24 to 48 hours (about 1-2 days)
    • Cardiac MRI or CT scan: Provides detailed images of the heart and blood vessels

What are the early signs of heart disease?

Early signs of heart disease can include:

    • Chest pain or discomfort (angina)
    • Shortness of breath, especially during physical activity
    • Fatigue or weakness
    • Dizziness or lightheadedness
    • Swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet (edema)
    • Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
    • Nausea or sweating, especially during a heart attack

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve health outcomes and prevent serious complications.

When should I see a Cardiologist near Holly Springs, GA?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Cardiologist near Holly Springs, GA?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Cardiologists near Holly Springs, GA?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Cardiologists near Holly Springs, GA?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Cardiologist in Holly Springs?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Cardiologist search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Cardiologist?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Cardiologist near Holly Springs, GA?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Cardiologist?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Cardiologist may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.
